Volkswagen diesel models, Kia SUVs, Lexus models and Porsche models are set to go on sale next year, according to Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor.
The Japanese automaker said it is aiming to introduce its first diesel-powered cars in 2020, with models to go into production later in the decade.
It expects to build 100,000 vehicles this year, up from about 40,000 last year.
“Our strategy is to produce vehicles in the 2020s that will offer a better, more luxurious experience,” Toyota chief executive Yasuo Hirano said.
“I am convinced that diesel-fueled cars are the best vehicle for the future.”
The company is also planning to introduce two models in 2021, including a luxury SUV and a luxury sedan.
The diesel-electric hybrid car, with a range of 400 kilometres (250 miles) and a top speed of 140 km/h (77 mph), is expected to go up against the luxury sedan and sport utility vehicle in 2021.
The new model, with the same drivetrain as its predecessor, will also be available in a range from 120 to 220 kilometres (80 to 160 miles), depending on the model, and it will be powered by the latest diesel technology.
The latest diesel models are expected to hit the market in 2020.
Toyota is expected by analysts to unveil at least five new models this year.
The new diesel models will come from a mix of Japanese and American brands, including the Toyota Camry and Toyota Prius.
The Toyota Prium, which is already in production, will be the first to be released in 2020 but the automaker also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid model.
The company has not released a new model since the Toyota Yaris crossover crossover, launched in 2020 and now sold in more than 100 countries, was introduced in 2021 as a model of the brand.
The Toyota Corolla crossover was introduced next year but its launch was delayed due to safety concerns.
Other Japanese brands are also expected to enter the market.
In 2018, Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor began introducing plug-ins for its vehicles.
Its first plug- in hybrid vehicle was the Toyota Corollas, which will be sold in 2020 with a fuel efficiency rating of up to 27 miles per gallon.
A Japanese version of the Nissan Leaf was also introduced in 2020 by Nissan.
