AUSTRALIA’s first-ever model home will be built in Britain, the Australian builder said.
The home is a customised recreation of a Victorian cottage in Buckinghamshire, a model of which has been installed at the park model home, a refurbished home in Melbourne, and a new house in Winchester, New South Wales.
Owner and model home builder Scott Brown said it would allow him to “restore a sense of place” to a rural area he had lost since moving to Australia in 2009.
“This is a model house which I have had in my workshop for over 30 years and I am hoping to bring it back into the UK for the first time in about a decade,” he said.
“The whole project is to restore a sense for rural Australia, where I lived in the 1990s and early 2000s, to the people of Australia.”
It’s a model home which I want to restore to the same feeling that I experienced in the 1970s and 1980s and it’s very special to me and I think it’s a very important building.
“He said he would also be looking to return to Australia and sell it to a local developer.
Mr Brown’s project is one of many designed by Australian model builders in a bid to promote the country’s manufacturing sector and tourism sector, particularly in its biggest cities.”
I have spent a lot of time in my time as an architect designing model homes to inspire people in rural Australia,” he explained.”
For me it’s about giving people a place to come and be in a way that they might not have otherwise been in a place like Australia.
“It’s about restoring a sense and an identity to a place which is now quite rural and we need to get that back.”
Mr Brown said he had no plans to sell the model home to anyone other than himself.
“We’ve got a lot going on, so I’d love to get it into someone’s hands, but I don’t want to sell it,” he told The Sunday Telegraph.
“It would be a good project to put up on my own.”
