NEW YORK — The baby model ships that made a splash in the New York City subway system are finally arriving in the city.
New Jersey’s New York-area model ship modeler Sarah Smith told NBCNewYork.com that her team is in the process of getting all of the ships ready for shipment.
We’ve been in talks with the New Jersey Maritime Commission and they’re going to get the ship ready for the New Year, she said.
The New Jersey-based model ship company announced its launch in May.
Smith said the company hopes to ship its ships to New York’s Penn Station, where they’ll be visible from the air for passengers to see.
As part of the New Deal program that launched in the early 20th century, the New Brunswick-based company also launched a model ship to New Jersey, called the Model A, which was based in New Jersey and had a crew of eight.
The New York State Department of Transportation also began offering its own models in December for free to the public.
